Marine furniture mostly uses rounded corners and is made of fire-resistant or flame-retardant materials. For certain ships with special requirements, or to meet the so-called "houses equipped with furniture and equipment to limit fire hazard" specified in the shipbuilding regulations, the cabin furniture must be made of fire-resistant or flame-retardant materials.
Marine furniture is generally smaller than land furniture. Each crew member must have his own furniture, so the number is larger. The senior crew on board and the general crew have different furnishings except for the living area.
